Aromatherapy is considered both a science and an art – a practitioner must be knowledgeable in essential oils, treatments, safety protocols and commit to continued education as this field develops and clinical studies on essential oils are conducted.

The craft in blending essential oils involves an innate ability and blending skills to create a synergistic blend that has healing potential and is pleasurable to use.

Aromatherapy engages my interest in botanicals, chemistry, research, writing, education and helping others achieve healing and balance.  Over the last decade I have delved into studying the connection between the mind, body and spirit, first becoming a yoga instructor and afterwards pursued training in trauma sensitive yoga with David Emerson, the pioneer of Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga and his colleague Jen Turner, LMHC and co-founder of the Center for Trauma and Embodiment at the Justice Resource Institute.  I attended a workshop for yoga instructors and mental health professionals with Dr. Bessel van der Kolk psychiatrist and author of the book, The Body Keeps the Score, at the Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health in Massachusetts.  In 2018 I was mentored by Valerie Cooksley, R.N. and founder of the Institute of Integrative Aromatherapy. I chose this aromatherapy training program because it is geared towards training clinical nurses in aromatherapy and it integrated holistic practices.

Most recently, I earned a Certificate in Integrative Medicine from the University of Minnesota’s Earl E. Bakken Center for Spirituality and Healing, including a certification in Guided Imagery.  Guided imagery is a form of focused relaxation that helps to promote harmony between the mind and body involving the five senses.

This year I am honored to have my case study: Combining the Use of hydrolats and Holistic Approaches for Eczema and Surgical Incision Scars published in The International Journal of Professional Holistic Aromatherapy, winter 2022 edition.

As a professional holistic aromatherapist I believe that aromatherapy is not a substitute for professional medical care. Aromatherapy is a complementary alternative modality (CAM). The quality of essential oils sold in stores and on line varies greatly and frankly is alarming.  Essential oils can be easily adulterated for a quick profit.  I am committed to using only clinical grade essential oils that are third party lab tested for chemical analysis. When available I choose to use organic essential oils.

I invite you to explore my website and blog and welcome you inquiries.
